We manufacture high-quality hoses, tubes, profiles, cables, and plastic coatings. Through our environmental and quality systems, we aim to enhance our operations and produce products and services that meet the requirements of our customers and stakeholders.

Responsibility in our operations

As a Finnish family business, Toppi Oy is a responsible and value-based operator. The ownership and management of the company have been in the hands of the Toppi family for four generations. Since its establishment, Toppi Oy has adhered to the best business practices in the industry, maintained long-term relationships with customers and material suppliers, and has had no legal proceedings in its history.

The company employs approximately 45 people and 3-4 summer workers. The company encourages and supports its employees in lifelong learning. Job descriptions can be modified, and responsibilities increased as skills develop. Compensation is equal regardless of gender and is primarily influenced by the diversity of skills and responsibilities. The aim is always fairness.

In recent years, Toppi Oy has developed its financial sustainability due to stable future prospects. Challenging and exceptional times have made it difficult to conduct risk analyses, obtain materials such as plastic granules, recruit, and forecast demand. Despite these challenges, financial development has been positive, and the company has achieved its strategic goals and fulfilled its responsibilities to society, customers, suppliers, and employees.

As an operator in the plastics industry, environmental responsibility is important to Toppi Oy, and there is plenty of work to be done. We see challenges as opportunities. We can utilize almost 100% of the waste generated in our production, and we offer products in our range that are made from these by-product materials.

Toppi Oy is committed to transparent, responsible, up-to-date, and honest communication. In line with responsible principles, marketing is carried out based on facts and truthfulness. The main purpose of marketing is to maintain contact with current customers and create an accurate public image of Toppi Oy. An important target group for communication and marketing is also potential job applicants.

Plastic is a high-quality and durable material

Plastic plays significant roles in the functionality of society and sustainable development. Many high-quality consumer goods are made from plastic. Their lifespan can extend to decades. A used plastic product can eventually be utilized as energy.

Many perceive plastic as an environmentally unfriendly option, but in many situations and applications, plastic is an indispensable material, and removing it from use could even increase environmental burden.

Examples of the important roles of plastic for the environment and people:

Longer-lasting food, more efficient transportation, and less waste: Plastic packaging protects food and significantly reduces waste.
Clean drinking water and functional sewer systems: Plastic water supply networks transport clean water to us and safely direct wastewater for treatment.
Energy production and transmission (heat and electricity): Plastic is essential for energy production and its transmission.
Safe healthcare: Plastic enables the availability, functionality, and efficiency of modern healthcare.
Everyday safety: Plastic brings safety to traffic and homes, for example, in car seat belts and seats, life jackets and rings in water traffic, traffic safety in bicycle helmets and reflectors, and home and building safety in alarm systems and smoke detectors.

Plastic by the Numbers

Less than 1.5% – Of all the gas and oil used in Europe, less than 1.5% is used for the production of plastic packaging.

4–5% – Of all the oil used by humans, 4–5% is sufficient for the production of all plastic products.

11% – The minimum amount of plastic in modern cars. Plastic reduces the weight of the car, which cuts consumption and emissions.

5 % – The share of plastic in all industrial carbon dioxide emissions. Steel accounts for 25% and cement for 19%.²

19 % – Plastic products are practically irreplaceable by other materials.³

22.4 million tonnes – The increase in energy consumption measured in oil if plastics were replaced by other materials in Western Europe.⁴

50 million tonnes – The annual reduction in crude oil use due to the lightness of plastics. This amount is equivalent to removing 46 million cars from traffic.

7,300 – The estimated number of lives saved by plastic seat belts in Europe in 2008.⁵

Plastic is essential for energy production and transmission

Plastic plays a crucial role in society’s energy distribution. The excellent moldability of plastic combined with its insulating properties for electricity and heat forms the basis for utilizing both renewable and non-renewable energy sources.

In practice, plastic is the material that enables the existence of district heating and all electrical cabling. Building insulation also largely relies on plastic and its unique properties: thanks to properly installed plastic insulation and seals, buildings consume less energy. The significance of plastic insulation is considerable, as a quarter of all energy in the EU is used for heating and cooling buildings.
